I will lift up my eyes unto the hill from whence cometh my help. Psalms 121:1
Our Lord, in his infinite wisdom, saw fit to call Willie Mae Horton Hunt home to rest on February 19, 2021, at her home in Sparta, Georgia, in Hancock county. Aunt Willie was born June 17, 1926, to the late Joseph and Elizabeth Horton. She was married to the late Chanel Hunt.
At an early age, she joined Saint Galilee Baptist Church in Sparta, Georgia. She later moved to St. Louis, Missouri, and upon retiring she moved back to Sparta.
Aunt Willie was a very vibrant, lively, and uplifting person who was never short on words. She was a hardworking, loving, and dedicated person. She has a great love for children, especially Brittany Wheeler Harrell and Jamil Griffin. She also had a very special bond with Brittany’s father, William (Bill) Wheeler.
Willie Mae was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; seven brothers, Henry, Smith, Joseph, Tommy, Rogers, David, and Linton Horton; and four sisters, Julia Dixon, Lecornia Morse, Sarah Blount, and Ellenora Johnson.
Willies memory will be cherished by: her sister, Beverly H. Griffin of Sparta, Georgia; sisters-in-law, Willa Mae Horton of Perry, Georgia and Ms. Katie L. Travis of Sparta, Georgia; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A special Thank You to her caregivers, Patrice Griffin (nephew) and Elizabeth (Libby) White. Also, to the staff of Encompass Hospice.
Aunt Willie was more than a daughter, wife, sister, aunt, and friend. She was a mom to many. She was always lovingly confident and lived life with beauty and grace. I can hear her smiling and saying “take care of yourself.”
She will be missed and always remain in our hearts.
