William Holloway Obituary

 

William Theodore Holloway was born on May 18, 1942 in Cook County Hospital, Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from Booker High School in Barnesville, Georgia on May 19, 1960. After graduation, he attended the Agricultural & Technical College of North Carolina (which is now known as North Carolina A&T), on a track scholarship. During his time at A&T, he participated with the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) to protest against Jim Crow, specifically in the sit-ins at Woolworth’s lunch counter.

He married Ruby Parker Holloway on September 17, 1963 and was drafted into the United States Army on September 23, 1963.  After earning a Parachutist Badge and being declared an Expert (Rifle M-16) and 1st Class Gunner (Flame Thrower), he served in Vietnam and was Honorably Discharged on December 12, 1965. He thereafter enlisted with the United States Air Force and served 8 years, 11 months as a Command and Control Superintendent and 14 years, 1 month as a Vehicle Operations Supervisor. He retired from the USAF with multiple distinctions on January 1, 1990.

He became a Brother of the Cherry Blossom Masonic Lodge #42 in Tokyo, Japan on November 19, 1983. He became an Usher of his home church, West Mount Sinai Baptist Church, on August 20, 2006.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby Parker Holloway; brother, William Spratt; devoted daughters: Theresa Holloway, Theodora Whitfield (Michael), LaTonya Williams (Shawn), LaTria Ingram (Adrick) and April Holloway; his grandchildren: Jasmyn James, Jamal James, JaCorey Mack, Chanel DeJohnette, Malik Whitfield, Nigel Whitfield, Taylor Hill and Ethan Ingram; great-grandchildren: Niyaa James, Alaeyah DeJohnette, Binti Schramm, Chase DeJohnette, Noah James and Amaya Schramm; his sisters in law: Doris Harris, Louise Elder, Evelyn Smith and Bettye Parker; his best friends: Pete Banks, Robert Rogers and Alfred Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
