But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23
Vickey Vernaita Walker was on born May 10, 1960, to the late Jessie Bowen & Sarah Ann Martin at Grady Memorial Hospital. The Lord called her home on Wednesday, November 16th, 2022.
She graduated from Lithonia High School in 1978 and after graduation she attended DeKalb Technical College where she majored in Business Office Technology. She later became a loyal and devoted employee in retail distribution. Vickey’s calling and love for children drew her into teaching at a Christian Academy. Her dream job was to be a flight attendant, for it was her heart’s desire to travel and serve people near and far.
Vickey loved the Lord. She accepted her Lord and Savior at an early age and became a faithful member of Moses Tabernacle F.C.O.G.I.C in Lithonia GA. She was a loyal and dedicated servant where she held the position as the youth choir director. Vickey’s love for music and singing led her to unite with the group named Christ Company. This was accented by her pure organic soprano tone that could be heard distinctly throughout the room in worship gatherings.
She coined the true phrase that, “Laughter is Good Like a Medicine”. She was like medicine to those she was around. Through her gift of laughter, peaceful countenance, and joyful spirit it was impossible not to be drawn in through her animated humor and contagious laugh. A prayer warrior and true woman of God that would light up a room and fill it with joy.
Vickey is preceded in death by her parents Bishop Jessie B. Martin and First Lady Sarah A. Martin, and a sister, Evangelist Sevonzell Walker. She leaves to cherish her memory and continue her legacy, a devoted husband of 23 years, Elder Charlie Walker, a son Donnie Wilcher (Nicole) of Lithonia, GA, three daughters Melinda Lott (Joe) of Augusta GA, Tianna Johnson (Rodney) of Thomson GA, Shangriah Roberts (Donte) of Ft. Myers, FL, two sisters - Barbara Dawson (Eddie) of Warrenton GA, Gwendolyn Davis of Milledgeville GA, two brothers - Hollywood Smith, Jr. of Lithonia GA, Jessie V.
