Pauline Wilson Obituary

Pauline (Pinky) Ficklin Wilson

“O sing unto the Lord a new song, sing unto the Lord all the earth. Sing unto the Lord Bless his name, show forth his salvation from day to day.” Psalm 96:1-2

In the early hours of the morning on April 8, 2024, the Lord came, just as he promised, and received Pauline Ficklin Wilson unto himself so that where he is there she may be also. Her April 8 flight from labor to reward was recorded by Piedmont McDuffie County.

Pauline Ficklin Wilson was born on June 1, 1951, in Warrenton, Georgia at the home of her parents. Her mother was assisted by a midwife, Mrs. Clementine Rogers. She was born to the parentage of the late John Hudson and Iris Smith Ficklin. She was the fourth of 13 siblings.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Iris, and seven of her siblings, six sisters, Geraldine Ficklin, Betty Jean Ficklin, Mattie Clara Ficklin Wingfield, Annette Ficklin Ruff, Annie Ruth Ficklin Dawson, and Iris Ficklin Bray, and one brother, John Hudson Ficklin, III.

Pauline joined the Millrock Baptist Church on August 8, 1968, and actively served until her demise. She was a devoted member in good standings. Her serving capacities included Missionary Worker, Choir President, Deaconess, Superintendent of Sunday School, and a Community Servant. She was known for her cooking skills, especially her cakes, sweet potato pies, and turkey and chicken dressing. Many children in the community and other counties remember her feeding a kid meals, summer camp lunches, and snacks made in Aunt Paw Paw’s kitchen. These things she did even after two battles with breast cancer. As a community servant she served as a cancer support agent in the Reach for Recovery program, and a Chairperson for a Relay for Life team called the Team of Faith. She was a volunteer for the Circle of Care and a certified volunteer for 4-H. She also served on the following Boards of Directors in the Warren County community: Quality of Life Association Board, Family Connection of Warren County, Inc. Board, Health Department Board, and President of the DFCS Board. She was still active on these boards at the time of her passing.

She attended the Warren County school system, where she graduated with the class of 1969. She continued her education by completing skills training classes in catering and culinary arts and sewing. Over the years, she was employed at Uniroyal, Health Tex Inc., Jebco, Universal Rundle, and Quality of Life Association for Warren County, Inc. She became a full time homemaker after her second bout with cancer. She was a 34-year cancer survivor before she crossed over.

Pauline was born an excellent singer and cook. She made potato pies and dressing for individuals in and out of her community. She loved to help Iris sing God’s Goodness. She loved contributing to her community and serving God’s people. Our last very memorable moment with Pauline was in her last service at Millrock, which was the fourth Sunday in March 2024. She sang, “Oh, how beautiful it is today just to be alive.” It was a service we will never forget.

She leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her memories: a devoted husband of 52 and a half years, James Wilson; one daughter, Tanisha (Anthony) Kersey; one son, Jamel (Catressa) Wilson; one bonus daughter, Vanessa (Robert) Jones; five grandchildren, Jameyah, Catreice, Robert Jr., Naya, and Jayla; four godchildren, Rhonda, Lyndon Jr., Bettina, and Skyy; four sisters, Reverend Emma F. Sinkfield, Catherine F. Hudson, Marlene F. Hudson, and Gloria (Pastor Lyndon) Heath, and one brother, Douglas “Butch” (Julie) Ficklin, all of Warren County, GA; one brother-in-law, J.C. (Carolyn) Wilson, and one sister-in-law, Mattie (Quillie) Mattox; two aunts, Sarah Smith of Brunswick, GA and Katherine Bradley of Killeen, TX; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and the Millrock Missionary Baptist Church family. A sad storm went across social media as the news surfaced about the passing of the wellknown singer of God’s Goodness. Pauline Ficklin Wilson fought a good fight, she kept the faith, and now we are more than sure that she is ready to be offered up. Amen.
