Ms. Shirley Mae Kuhn

Our All Mighty God, in His Infinite Wisdom, gently closed our beloved mother, Shirley Mae Kuhn’s, eyes on July 25, 2020, at 11:14 a.m., and allowed her to complete her journey here on earth.

Shirley was born March 10, 1947, in Warrenton, Georgia, to the parentage of the late Mr. James Hudgeons and Mrs. Annie Mae Hill Bell. At an early age, she accepted Christ as her personal Savior at Union Baptist Church in Sparta, Georgia. She attended Warren County Schools.

Shirley was a loyal and dedicated hard worker. She worked two full-time jobs for 30 years. She worked at Gibson Alternative Living Center in Gibson, Georgia for 30 years. In 2015, she retired from Warrenton Health & Rehabilitation Center, after a total of 40 years of service.

Shirley was a very sincere, quiet (such a great listener), and caring individual who loved to help anyone that she saw in true need. Our mother was a humble person with a peaceful spirit. She could always see the good in everyone. Mama had a way of letting you know that she believed in you and that you could do better, if you really tried. She also believed in you learning your lessons from your own experience. Her favorite phrase (in her high-pitched voice) was “Lord, have mercy.” She had a passion to cook and had a special finger for her homemade chicken dressing, cabbages, and broccoli casserole. She always, always, always threw down on her “Weiner Stew”!

Shirley was an independent and proud woman; a woman full of compassion, kindness, and wisdom. She will truly be missed. Our mother was preceded in death by one sister, Jessie Ann Collins; and three brothers, Clarence Hill, Larry Hill, and Marvin Hill.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories: a son, John Hill of Warrenton, GA; a daughter, Loresa (William) Lamar of Sparta, GA; a stepmother, Mary Hudgeons; sisters, Elizabeth Hudgeons and Mamie Hudgeons of Augusta, GA; two brothers, Frank Bell and William Henry Hill of Rochester, NY; aunts, Christine Ficklin and Lula Cheeley of Warrenton, GA, Katie Moss of Macon, GA, and Alice Mae Coleman of New York; uncle, Robert Hudgeons of Warrenton, GA; grandchildren, Lacy Hill of Gibson, GA, and Laqreshia Hill of NY; great-grandchildren, Na’Zarianna Gross and Na’Zaire Gross, all of Rochester, NY; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
