Salonda Grant 53, of Warrenton, Georgia gained her heavenly wings on April 6, 2025, at her residence in Warrenton, Georgia. She was born on June 3, 1971, at Grady Hospital to the parents of Mr. Fred Mathis and the late Mrs. Helen Grant Battle. She attended Warren County High School.
Salonda was a loving mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, auntie, and friend. She loved spending time with family and friends. She loved dancing, singing, and joking around making others laugh. She was the light of any family event, her warm spirit and funny character kept everyone that came into her presence uplifted to good spirit. You could be having a bad day, but once you’re in her presence she would always find a way to cheer you up. Her character was one of a kind. Her smile and laughter were contagious; she was just a fun and happy person to be around. One of her favorite songs was “I Want To Hold My Baby; by (TK Soul). Almost every song that came on the radio, she would say OOOOH that’s my song: Every song was her song; she just loved music.
Salonda was a sweet and caring person. “to know her was to love her.” She was one of the kindest, funniest, and sweetest people you could ever meet. She touched the lives of many who had the pleasure of being loved by her.
Salonda was preceded in death by her mother Helen Grant Battle, her daughter Jessica Grant, her brother Johnny Grant, her two sister, Linda Mathis and Marlo Mathis, her nephew Quentin Grant, Jr., nephew in law Eric Battle (EB), and a special friend Nelson Battle.
Salonda leaves to cherish her memories with her father and stepmother Fred and Blanche Mathis, her daughter Valerie Grant-Freeman, three sons Patrick Grant Walker, Devonte Hudson, Demetris Freeman and daughter in law Mahari Freeman; grandchildren Brianna Walker, Tommy Burgess lll, Demetris Freeman Jr., Mariah Freeman, her sisters Jennifer Grant Harris, Helen Freeman, Mary Mathis and Sheila Grant, brothers Quentin Grant, Marcus, Fred Mathis, Jr., Malcolm Grant, brother in law James Harris (Bo)Laquan Abney, nieces Tyeisha Tanksley-Battle, Denisha Tanksley, Briana Adams,Quentyra Grant, D’Jaylia Jones, Jahmaria Harris, Miya Grant. Tai’Asia Grant, Khaliyah Griffin and Chloe Freeman, nephews Malikia Grant, RyQuan Adams, Derrekus Jones, Khiry Griffin, Dalton Mathis Peyton Mathis, great nieces Nylah Tanksley, Tylah Tanksley, Kyleigh Tanksley, Ava Battle, Eriyal Burnett, great nephew Eric Battle, Jr., (EJ), special friends Demetris Darden (Big Dawg), Willie Jackson (Spoke), and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives, and friends.
Salonda will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all who know her.
