My Birth I, Sallie Mae Tucker, was born to the proud parents of Mattie and Marion Mayweather on October 4, 1951, in Sparta, Georgia.
My Childhood I lived and was blessed with a beautiful childhood growing up in the Culverton Community with my mom, dad, and siblings. During my childhood, I joined the New Beulah Baptist Church at a young age. I attended both elementary and high school in Hancock County. While in high school, I became a member of the Hancock Central Concert/ Marching Band. In addition to band, some of my favorite subjects were home economics and typing. I was an Alumni of Hancock Central High School, Class of 1969.
My Marriage Soon after high school, I married the love of my life and friend, Leon Tucker, and from this union, God blessed us with three beautiful daughters, affectionately known as “Our Girls.”
My Career I first accepted a job working as a secretary for the Hancock Board of Education. Years later, I accepted a full-time position with my employer as an Head Start Assistant Teacher. After several years, I was promoted to Lead Teacher and became a CDA Advisor in which I was blessed to help many other of my fellow teachers become certified in Child Care Development. While working as a Lead Teacher and Advisor, I was blessed to work closely and become certified with other Agencies such as Babies Can’t Wait, to make sure all my students received the best quality care. I couldn’t stop there, so I pressed on to obtain my Associates Degree in Education in 1999 from Georgia Military College in Milledgeville, Georgia. After approximately 30 years working with Head Start and receiving my degree, I was promoted to the position as Head Start Disability Coordinator, which I serve until my retirement.
My Transitioning On August 13, 2020, I heard my Heavenly Father’s voice. He called me home to beloved father, Marion Mayweather, Sr.; brothers, Willie Marion Mayweather, Henry Mayweather, Robert Kendrick, Marion Mayweather Jr., Charlie Mayweather, and brother Jeffrey Mayweather and sister, Della Nash.
Remember Me I leave to cherish my memory and my teaching: my dear mom, affectionately known as “Granny,” Mattie Mayweather; my husband, Leon Tucker; my girls, LaShandra Tucker-Rhodes, Salitha Tucker-Dargan, and Samantha (Everett) Havior; my precious grandchildren, Tempestt Rhodes, Jonathon Rhodes, Donovan Dargan Indya Horton, and Aziya Milner; brothers, Pastor Steve (Pastor Akita) Mayweather and James Mayweather; sisters, Mary Clark, Sister Mattie Mae Lawrence, and Sister Shirley Strawter; sister Lisa Moss Jordan, mother-in-law, Rosa Mae Tucker; and all my other family, friends, and loved ones who I was blessed to share my life’s journey.
