Ms. Helen Battle Obituary

The Life and Legacy of Helen Grant Battle Helen Grant Battle, 68, of Thomson, Georgia gained her heavenly wings on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at her residence in Thomason, Georgia. She was born on July 27, 1952 to the parents of the late Mr. Earnest Grant and the late Ms. Eula Pearl Ivey in Washington, Georgia. She attended Warren County High School.

Helen was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, auntie, and friend. She loved spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed sitting outdoors with her straw hat on, her long dress, and her special cup in her hand with a big smile on her face while enjoying the sun[1]light and cool breeze. She enjoyed dancing and listening to gospel and blues music. In her younger days she was given the name “Soul Turkey” and "Gold Monkey” because of her love for dancing. Her favorite songs were Cooling Water (Williams Brothers), Green Onion, Purple Rain, No Pain, No Gain (Betty Wright), Exhale (Shoop Shoop) by Whitney Houston, I Want to Hold My Baby (TK Soul), and Let’s Straighten It Out (Latimore).

Her favorite movies were Color Purple, Have and Have Nots, Shrek, Raising Dion, and Madea. She was such a loving and caring person. “To know here was to love her.” She was one of the kindest and loving people you could ever meet.

Helen was preceded in death by her father Earnest Grant, her moth[1]er Eula Pearl Ivey, her oldest son Johnny Grant, her two sisters Clarice Lewis and Alease Moss Devereaux, her three brothers J.W. Ivey, Ralph Ivey, and Eddie B. Ivey, two aunts Matt Ivey and Bett Ivey, her grandson Quientin Grant, Jr., and grandson-in-law Eric Battle (EB). Helen leaves to cherish her memories with her husband Willie James Battle, her sons Quientin Grant, Malcolm Grant, Marcus Grant of War[1]renton, Georgia, her daughters Salonda Grant, Jennifer Grant Harris, Helen Freeman of Warrenton, GA, and Sheila Grant of Thomason, GA; her grandchildren, Patrick Grant Walker, Valerie Grant Freeman, Tye[1]isha Tanksley-Battle, Denisha Tanksley, Demetris (Mahari) Freeman, Briana Adams, Quentyra Grant, D’Jaylia Jones, Jahmaria Harris, Miya Grant, Maliki Grant, Derrekus Jones, Tai’Asia Grant, Chloe Freeman, Devonte Hudson, RyQuan Adams, her great grandchildren, Nylah Tanksley, Tylah Tanksley, Kyleigh Tanksley, Brianna Walker, Ava Battle, Eric Battle, Jr. (EJ), and Tommy Burgess, Jr.; her care team with Alliance Hospice and Allways Caring, and family friend Mr. Hossie Robertson, Jr., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
