The Life & Legacy of
Teretha Huff
Teretha Huff made her advent into this life to the parentage of the late Mr. Luther Huff, Sr., and the late Mrs. Martha Lee Walker in Kershaw, South Carolina, on October 18, 1964. One thing most admired about Teretha was her love and devotion to her parents, and the rest of her family. Her every decision in life had at the back of it: how she could best serve those she loved. She had a generous spirit and developed strong family, friendship, and business ties in Sparta, Milledgeville, and Greensboro. She welcomed Jesus Christ into her life at an early age as
her Lord and Savior over her life. She prayed for her children and her husband to be covered under the precious blood of Jesus throughout their lives.
Teretha attended the public schools of Hancock County where she excelled academically, and was a proud member of the 1983 graduating class of Hancock Central High School. A few years later she decided to further her education where she graduated from Central Georgia Technical College with a diploma as a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1992.
While attending Hancock Central High School, she met fellow student, Darryl Wayne Lewis, and they were married in 1984. Their family extended with the birth of their three children, Sabrina, Corey, and Angel. As her giftedness and her love of caring for others deepen, Teretha decided to further her education and graduated from Georgia Military College in 2011 where she received an Associate Degree. Because of her nurturing heart she dedicated her love, time, and energy to caring for her patients. She was known to have the hands and spirit of a healer.
Teretha was untiringly employed with the Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Disabilities at Central State Hospital of Milledgeville, Georgia, until she graciously retired with over 25 plus years of service.
Precious memories will forever be cherished by: her loving and devoted husband of 39 years, Darryl Wayne Lewis; her most valued possessions, her children, Sabrina Lewis, Corey Ramon Lewis, and Angel Chantel; siblings, Mamie Lee Huff of Atlanta, Georgia, Tracy Huff, Luther Huff Jr., and Jacqueline Denise Huff Howell, all of Sparta, Georgia, Jeanette Tillman of Douglas, Georgia, Jerri (Paul) Childs, Janice Washington, Diana Renae Crawford, and Phillip (D’Quilla) Huff, all of Atlanta, Georgia, Dennis (Shonda) Huff of Wilkinson County, Georgia; and
brother-in-law, Lester Lee Lewis, and sister-in-law, Leola Lewis, both of Milledgeville, Georgia. She is preceded in death by her brother the late Mr. Emanuel Lewis Walker.
She loved reading, completing puzzles of any kind, walking, listening to gospel music, attending church, and watching Family Feud. Teretha kept the faith and was known as a strong and direct woman who would give you the shirt off her back, ever so humble, an extraordinarily private person, a warrior and soldier whose laughter was contagious, an avid traveler, an open-hearted lover who expressed her knowledge of helping people, and if she didn’t know she would go to the farthest extreme and find out.
