With heartfelt sympathy, Dawson’s Mortuary announces the transition of Ms. Marie Battle of Warrenton, Georgia.
In the late evening hours of January 19, 2026, the Lord called his faithful servant home. Just as he promised, he came and received Marie M. Battle unto himself, so that where he is, there she may be also.
Marie M. Battle was born on March 6, 1931, in Hancock County, Georgia, to the late Samuel and Hattie McGhee. She received her early education in a small one-room schoolhouse in Warren County. At an early age, she united with Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, where she remained a devoted and faithful member throughout her life. She served diligently as church secretary for many years and later held the esteemed role of Mother of the Church until her passing.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Hattie McGhee; her husband, Robert Battle; her siblings, Odessa Martin and Julia Torrence; her only son, Nelson Battle; her daughter, Pearline Bradshaw; and her grandson, Eric Battle.
She leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her precious memories: two loving daughters, Lena Gilbert and Loistine (Arlandis) Baker, both of Warrenton, Georgia; six grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves three additional children whom she lovingly raised as her own: Elder Randy (Kathy) Young of Atlanta, Georgia; Willie James (Ida) Young; and Bessie Hamilton, both of Warrenton, Georgia.
Additionally, she is survived by one brother-in-law, James Battle; three sisters-in-law, Mamie Flemings, Annie Ruth Marshall, and Hazel Battle; along with a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, and sorrowing friends.
Marie M. Battle will be remembered for her quiet strength, unwavering faith, and loving spirit. Her legacy of service, devotion, and family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
