Mrs. Gussie Mae Griffin

Mrs. Gussie Mae Griff in was born in Warren County, Georgia on July 7 ,1930, to the late Willie Brinkley and Adell Cody Brinkley. She was the ninth of thirteen children. Gussie accepted Chris t and was baptized at an early age. She was a devoted member of Lithonia Baptist Church in Camak, Georgia.

Gussie married the late Robert Lee Griffin on February 2, 1947, and they remained married for 52 years until Robert’s passing in 1999. To this union, nine children were born.

A faithful homemaker, Gussie dedicated her life to caring for her children, grandchildren, great -grandchildren, and other family members. Each morning, she woke up early to prepare for the day ahead. She enjoyed many activities such as cooking, quilting, and, most importantly, gardening. Her flower gardens were immaculate. She loved to mix combinations of flowers and see the varieties of vibrant colors they produced.

As a devout Christian, she was a treasured member of Lithonia Baptist Church. She lived and demonstrated the characteristics of the Virtuous Woman described in Proverbs 31. Her most frequent and valued advice was, “You need to pray,” because she believed that prayer truly changes things. Gussie lived on the Christian principles of wisdom and kindness. Her church family was very important to her as she was to them. She enjoyed attending church services and preparing food for church gatherings.

Gussie was preceded in death by her sons, Tommy Griffin, Makeson Griffin, and her daughter, Shirley Griffin Ficklin.

Gussie’s legacy will live on in the hearts of her loved ones for generations to come. She leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters, Betty Griffin (J. W.) Moss, Lora Bell, four sons, Nathaniel Griffin, Melvin (Margaret Jean) Griffin, Aaron (Margaret) Griffin, and Tony (Alisa) Griffin; a granddaughter she raised, Danelle Griffin; two sisters, Mary Williams, and Mattie Brinkley; two brothers, Moses Brinkley and Bobby (Evelyn) Brinkley; 39 grandchildren; 7 1 great-grandchildren; 12 great -great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
