“For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
2 Timothy 4:6-8
Carrie Binns Grier was born on Saturday, June 23, 1923, in Sharon, Georgia to the late Robert Binns and Bell Binns. She transitioned into eternal rest on Tuesday, December 22, 2020, at Doctor’s Hospital in Augusta, Georgia with family at her bedside. Carrie held family in high esteem, enjoying nine siblings – Mattie Bell, Robert Jr., John, Annie Lee, Will, Edgar, Roberta, Jessie Mae, and James - all of which preceded her in death.
Our dearest Carrie dedicated her life to her family, church, and community. She was a devoted wife to the late Solomon Grier and a loving daughter, sibling, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend to many. At an early age, she accepted Jesus Christ into her life, was baptized, and joined St. Paul Baptist Church in Sharon, Georgia. She later changed her membership to House of God, House of Prayer, Inc. of Warrenton, Georgia, where she served faithfully as “Mother of the Church” until her demise. Her love for God was exemplified by her heart of gold, treatment of others, willingness to serve, and compassionate nature. Carrie will be remembered by all for her joyful spirit, witty jokes, soulful food, and “sweet bread” among other things.
Left to mourn her passing and cherish her memories are: four daughters, Agnes Berry and Ella Franklin, both of Decatur, GA, Lavania Franklin of Norwood, GA, and Mary Jones of Warrenton GA; two sons, James (Mary) Grier of Warrenton, GA and Winston (Betty Sue) Grier of Thomson, GA; 25 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, God children, neighbors, and friends.
