Mr. Oliver Horton Obituary

Dawson’s Mortuary announces the transition of Mr. Oliver Lee Horton of Sparta, Georgia. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends during this time of sorrow.
Services will be held on Monday, November 24, 2025, at 12:00 noon at Warren Chapel AME Church.

On October 26, 1940, Oliver Lee Horton was born to the late Wilkin and Elouise Horton. He lived in Sparta, Georgia, all his life and was well known and loved by many. Oliver wore many hats throughout his life—he was a Laborer, Gardener, Bus Driver, and his favorite of all, an Orderly at Sparta Health, where he served for over 20 years. Most importantly, he was a devoted companion of more than 50 years to Evelyn Abram, who preceded him in death. Their union produced one child, and Oliver lovingly embraced and fathered all six of her other children.

Oliver was one of twelve children, with two siblings—Magnolia and Sybil—preceding him in death. He attended school in Hancock County and graduated in 1958. He was a member of Mitchell Chapel and also attended Warren Chapel, his home church. Oliver was a loving father and “PaPa,” and his presence is already deeply missed. He leaves to cherish his memory:  One daughter, Vanessa Horton of Sparta, Georgia  Four grandsons: Kalvin Hampton of Sparta, Georgia; Terrance (Moniqua) Hampton of Eatonton, Georgia; Zadarius Cheatem of Milledgeville, Georgia; and one grandson who preceded him in death, Eric K. Reynolds  Two great-grandchildren: Destiney and Davin Hampton Six sisters: Dorothy, Barbara, and Brenda of New York; Alberta of Arizona; Shirley of Augusta, Georgia; and Patricia of Maryland Three brothers: William of Atlanta, Georgia; Willie of Sparta, Georgia; and Richard of New York Six stepchildren, one preceded in death (Alice Annette) – Sons: Timothy of Sparta, Georgia; Charles of Augusta, Georgia; Lucious of Milledgeville, Georgia – Daughters: Kathy and Reva of Sparta, Georgia Fifteen grandchildren  Eighteen great-grandchildren Nine great-great-grandchildren  A host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends who adored and loved him.
