Mr. Larry Wilson Obituary

Larry Wilson, 77 of Atlanta, Georgia passed away on June 8, 2026, at Grady Memorial Hospital, in Atlanta, Georgia.

Born on June 4, 1949, in Sparta, Georgia, he was the 8th child of 14 children born to Alfred Sr. and Ruby Jones Wilson.  Larry was a graduate of Hancock Central High School, Class of 1969, where he sang in the School Chorus.   After graduating from high school, Larry was drafted into the military, and answered the call to serve his country, by joining the United States Army.

Larry proudly served from June 29, 1970, to February 1972, attaining the rank of Specialist 4th Class (Spec 4).  During the Vietnam War, he served with Company B, 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry, 1st Cavalry Division as a Light Weapons Infantry Crewman (11B).  for his bravery and honor, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 Device.  He also earned the highest and most prestigious badge awarded in combat, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge.  Larry was an Expert Rifleman (M16), Expert Machine Gunner (M60) and a Sharpshooter with the .45 Caliber Pistol.

Following his military service, Larry returned to Sparta, Georgia and began his career in the furniture manufacturing industry, where he worked in both Sparta, Georgia and Louisburg, North Carolina.  Later in his career, Larry worked for the Veterans Administration (VA) in Atlanta, Georgia, until he retired.  Beyond his career, Larry was deeply committed to supporting fellow veterans, often participating in veterans support groups.

Larry will be remembered for his quiet demeanor, his generous spirit, quirky sense of humor, his distinct laugh and his strong opinions on politics, culture and current events.  He will also be remembered for his unwavering loyalty to both friends and fellow service members.

Larry is survived by his eldest daughter, Loresa Hill Lamar (William) of Deveraux, Georgia, his high school sweetheart and wife of 51 years, Beatrice Castleberry Wilson of Columbus, Ohio, daughters; Cresenda Wilson Dodley of Columbus, Ohio and Kenisha Williams of Wake Forest, North Carolina, sister; Florence Edwards of Sparta, Georgia, brothers;  Charlie Wilson (Mary) of Augusta, Georgia and Randolph Wilson (Jacqueline) of Newnan, Georgia, sisters-in-law; Inell Wilson of White Plains, Georgia and Lillie Wilson of Sparta, Georgia, granddaughters; Quiera  Dodley  and Kennedy Dodley Clement (Edward), great-granddaughters; Emeliana & Giselle Clement, all of Columbus, Ohio, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
