James Nathaniel “Jay” Dickson III, of Sparta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2026, in his hometown. A beloved father, brother, and friend, Jay will be remembered for his warmth, loyalty, and generous spirit that touched all who knew him.
Jay was born on September 3, 1947, in Sparta, Georgia, to the late Nathaniel and Bernice Dickson. He grew up working alongside his family on the family farm, where he developed the strong work ethic and sense of responsibility that guided him throughout his life. Jay graduated from Hancock Central High School and later proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force.
During his military service, Jay served honorably in the Vietnam War and earned several decorations, including the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award. Following his service to his country, he furthered his education and earned an associate degree from Georgia Military College.
Jay spent his professional career with Triumph Aerostructures, where he worked faithfully for many years before retiring. Outside of work, Jay found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He was a devoted father and a master of the grill, well known for his barbecue and his ability to bring people together. He cherished time spent with his children, family, and friends, especially his extended brotherhood with the infamous “Rat Pak.”
Jay’s legacy of love and laughter lives on through his children, Jason (Nicole) Dickson and Jasmine Dickson; his sister, Barbara (Wilbert) Jackson; his cousins, Jeff (Phyllis) Brunson and Herbert (Mary) Brunson; his grandchildren, Kiyah Gibbs, Ni’ya Gibbs, and Joel Dickson; and his lifelong friends of the infamous “Rat Pak,” Bobby Lee, Charles Davis, and Talton.
Service entrusted to Dawson’s Mortuary ~ 98 Hopgood Street Warrenton, Georgia.
