Mr. David Wells, Sr. was born on April 11, 1943, in Avondale Estates, Georgia, to the late Mr. and Mrs. John Wells. On May 7, 2026, he peacefully transitioned from this life, leaving behind a legacy of service, leadership, and love.
At an early age, he joined Chapel First Baptist Church, where he began developing the strong faith that would guide him throughout his life. He was united in holy matrimony to his devoted wife, Mrs. Margaret Marie Wells, and together they were blessed with two children.
Mr. Wells was a proud and esteemed member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated and a man deeply committed to service, leadership, and uplifting others.
A visionary and hardworking individual, David began his journey as a business owner and entrepreneur in Monroe, Georgia. His passion for community and youth development led him into the field of education and mentorship. He began his educational service as a Recreational Center Director at Gresham Park in Atlanta, Georgia, where he made a lasting impact on the lives of many young people.
He later continued his work in education at Bass High School, where he worked closely with challenged students, organizing educational trips and engaging them in meaningful learning experiences that extended beyond the classroom.
His dedication to service did not stop there. Mr. Wells was also employed at Georgia Regional, where he continued his work supporting challenged adults with compassion and care. Additionally, he worked at Scottdale Mill in Scottdale, Georgia.
David later carried his educational expertise and passion for community service to Hancock County, where he became a pillar in the community. He devoted much of his time to mentoring and guiding young people, always encouraging them to strive for excellence. He affectionately referred to Sparta, Georgia, as “God’s Land,” a reflection of his deep appreciation and love for the community he served.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving and devoted wife, Mrs. Margaret Marie Wells; two children, Mr. David Leon Wells, Jr. and Ms. Pamela K. Wells; three grandchildren, Dr. David Leon Wells III, Kendal Greyton Wells, and Kora Blue Wells; one sister, Mrs. Evelyn Durrett; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
His life was a testament to faith, service, and unwavering dedication to others. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
