Lurena "Shug" Johnson Moss

Our family chain was broken on Monday, January 31, 2022, when God called Mrs. Lurena Johnson Moss home to rest.

Lurena was born on September 1, 1941, to the late Mr. Richard and Mrs. Rena Mae Johnson. She joined Greenwood at an early age and was affectionately known to family and friends as “Shug,” and “Grandma Shug” to her grandchildren.

She married the late Alfornia Moss, Sr., and to this union eight children were born. In her earlier years, she was employed at Garland Mills in Warrenton, Georgia. She eventually left that job in order to become a homemaker and raise her children.

One daughter, Janet Heath; one son, Anthony Moss; one brother, Eddie Lewis Johnson; and three sisters, Marie Latimore, Maggie Tanksley, and Ida Mae Tolbert preceded her in death.

Lurena’s children and grandchildren meant the world to her. She leaves: three sons, Vernon Johnson (Jada), Alfornia Moss, Jr. (Valerie), of Norwood, Georgia, and Andrea Moss(Connie) of Thomson, Georgia; three daughters, Loretta Moss of Norwood, Georgia, Michelle Moss Ivey (Charlie) of Warrenton, Georgia, and Lisa Moss of Thomson, Georgia; one sister, Addie Mae Tanksley of Warrenton, Georgia; two brothers-in-law, Roy Moss and Jimmy Lee Berry (Teresa) of Warrenton, Georgia; one sister-in-law, Lucy Mae Berry of Norwood, Georgia; thirty-three grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and greatgreat grandchildren; a loving niece and nephew, William and Shirley Howard; and a host of other nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.

Lurena will enter into the pearly gates of heaven with a reunion from her parents, husband, two children, and siblings on this new mission that takes her to a wonderful place where she will be basking in the glory of the Lord’s presence, never again to feel pain, disappointment, or sorrow.
