Lizzie “Punk-Punkin” Lewis, age 101, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at Fairview Park Hospital of Dublin, Georgia. She was born March 29, 1917, in Sparta, Georgia to Rachel and Rich Lewis.
She was adored and loved by all who knew her. Lizzie enjoyed life, family members, and many friends. She worked as a housekeeper for many years and was always there to brighten the lives of others. At an early age, Lizzie joined Tabernacle Baptist Church. Her indomitable spirit encouraged her family and friends to persist in the face of many struggles. She was a person of faith and lived life serving others. Known in her “Sanders Quarters” neighborhood as “Miss OG” (Old Grandma), Lizzie was definitely an inspiration to many. It was often said that there was not a stranger that she didn’t know or a smile she kept to herself.
Lizzie is reunited with her parents, Rachel and Rich Lewis, children; Ethel Mae, (JT) Williams and Clarence “Sambo” (Betty) Lewis, granddaughter, Barbara Ann Lewis; brothers, Jack, Harold, and Buster; sisters, Minnie, Clara, Elsie, Betty, Louise and Fannie.
She is survived by two loving children; Bobby Jean Lewis Morris and Jerry Lewis both of Sparta, GA; sister, Iris Butts of Cleveland, OH; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. The legacy of her spirit and zest for life will continue to live through them.
Services entrusted to Dawson’s Mortuary – 98 Hopgood Street, Warrenton, GA.
