The life Story of

Mrs. Julia Lee Johnson Hillman

Mrs. Julia Lee Johnson Hillman was born February 14, 1916 in Hancock county, Georgia to the late Bessie Dickson and Samuel Johnson.  She had seven siblings, Jennie, Maggie, Edgar, Hattie, Johnny, Daisy, and Samuel Jr.

On January 4, 1931 she became the wife of the late Oscar Hillman and to this union they were blessed with ten children.  Walter (deceased), Mary, Johnny, Ralph, Annie, Edgar, Hattie, Rubie, Rose and Larry.  She was educated in the public school system of Hancock County.  At an early age, she joined New Hope Powelton Baptist Church where she served on the Mother’s Board, Deaconess, Sunday School Teacher, member of the Baptist Training Union, worked in the Youth Department, singed in the church choir and was on the Usher Board.  After moving to Warren County, she served as a Sunday School teacher at Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Norris Community.  She worked with the youth in Baptist Training Union.  She also sang in a quartet made up of her sister, three nieces, and her daughter known as the Rising Six.  As a farmer’s wife in Warren County, she won in competition with other farmer’s wife as the top canner in the county.  She also worked with Warren County Senior Citizen and produced a cook book and made many hand sewn quilts to raise money for many trips they took.  She also taught bible class with the senior citizen.  She was also known to the community as a good seamstress.

We shall always remember her faithfulness and willingness to share God’s word with those who came in contact with her.  God blessed her with many gifts in which she shared with others. She was a loving mother and wife. 

Precious memories shall be cherished in the hearts of her family all the days of their lives.  Survivors include: her nine children, Johnny (Rubie) Hillman, Mary Vauhan, Arthur (Evelyn) Hillman, Anne (Oscar) Wyatt, Edgar (Lola) Hillman, Louise Heard, Rubie (Felton) Poole, Rose Williams, John (Mamie) Hillman, nieces and nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, almost span five generations, as well as a host of relatives and friends.
