Josephine Grier Allen was born to the late Robert Grier and Sallie Mae Ivey Grier on October 23, 1943. She departed this life on Wednesday, April 1, 2020.
She accepted Christ and joined Greenwood Baptist Church early in life. For years, she sang in the Senior Choir and was a member of the Missionary Ministry and served on the Deaconess Board.
She married her high school sweetheart, the late Willie James Allen, in 1958.
She is preceded in death by a sister, Lula Lee and a brother, Roy Grier.
She leaves to cherish her memories five children – Patricia (Cecil) Threat, Michael Allen, Kathy (Pastor Freddie) Neal, Sr., Melvin Allen, and Sandra Ivey; two sisters – Rosa Williams and Rosalind (Terry) Engram; a sister-in-law, Ophelia (Charles) Berry; thirteen grandchildren – Erica, Jermael, Chris (April), Tyneisha, Marcus, Freddie, Jr., Tyjah, Jared, Montrell, Asia, Maleek and Garrison; two great grandchildren – London and Evelyn; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
She was a beloved and respected wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, sister-in-law and friend. She dedicated her life to helping others and often went to visit and assist in any way possible the sick and shut in, the elderly and others in need throughout the community. She worked tirelessly in the church and loved to spread the word of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Her favorite verse is Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
