John Willie Hill was born on October 18, 1964 in Augusta, GA, to the parentage of Mr. Eddie Frank Gilbert and the late Ms. Shirley Kuhn. He was born, raised, and lived a full life in Warrenton, Georgia. “Jon-Willie” attended Warren County High School.
On Saturday, June 26, 2021, at home, surrounded by love, in Sparta, Georgia, our loved one, John, answered his call to be with the Lord. He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Annie Mae Hill, James Hudgeon, and Cleo and Carrie Evans; his brothers: Kenneth Hill and Charles Hill; his uncles: Clarence Hill, Larry Hill and Marvin Hill; and his aunt, Jessie Ann Collins.
John was a loyal and dedicated hard worker. “Buck-Wheat”, as he was fondly known on his CB Handle, drove trucks for over 30 years. He worked for Howard Sheppard and Hogan Transport. In 2018, he retired from driving, due to health reasons.
John Willie was an introverted extrovert, when he wanted to be. You had better believe that he could and would be the life of the party when the time came for fun! If you ever had the opportunity to meet him, you would never forget him.
His memories shall be cherished by his loving father: Eddie Frank (Johnnie Mae) Gilbert (Warrenton, GA); children: Lacy (James) Chalker (Gibson, GA), and a step-daughter Mariah Heath, (Greensboro, GA); grandchildren: Lyric Chalker, Cayden Chalker, and Trey Chalker; siblings: Loresa (William) Lamar (Sparta, GA), Eddie Gilbert (Augusta, GA), Lawanda Gilbert (Thomson, GA), April (Shawn) Lewis (Grovetown, GA), Nicole (Gregory) Moss (Grovetown, GA), and June Gilbert (Grovetown, GA); uncles & aunts: Elizabeth Hudgeon and Mamie Hudgeon (Augusta, GA), Frank Bell and William Henry Hill (Rochester, NY), Christine Ficklin, Lula Cheeley, Robert Hudgeon, Gladys (Gregory) Curry (Thomson, GA), Jimmy Evans (Warrenton, GA), Lela Mae Dawson (Lithonia, GA), his loving friend and ex-wife, Gwennette Lovett (Gibson, GA), and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who cherished and will miss him dearly.
