Isreal "Brut" Smith

November 3, 1924 ~ November 22, 2017 (age 93) 93 Years Old

Life’s Reflections

Isreal Smith, the last living child born to the union of Mr. Dave Smith, Sr. and Mrs. Estella Mills Smith, concluded his earthly trek on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 to dwell in the realms of heaven forever more.

As a young man, Isreal found unconditional love and companionship in Annie Lillian Hunt and proceeded to ask for her hand in marriage. The two were united for over seventy years, humbly raising six devoted children. Despite rearing a large family of their own, Isreal & Annie opened their hearts and homes to countless others who looked to the pair as extended family.

While he was still in his youth, Isreal eagerly joined Macedonia Baptist Church and remained an active member until his latter years.

Born with a soldier’s heart and a servant’s spirit, Isreal served his country in the United States Army during World War II until he received an honorable discharge in 1945. After his stent in the military, Isreal secured employment with the Sparta Furniture Factory and later worked for the Sparta Creamery before transitioning to a career as a Mechanical Equipment Operator for the Department of Transportation (DOT). Smith worked for the DOT for over twenty-five years before retiring.in 1988

No matter who you were or how you were acquainted with him, anyone who knew Isreal could attest that his most obvious gift was that of giving to those around him. If he thought it could help you in any way, Isreal often gave the last of what he had. His bright SMILE and favorite tagline, “Hoss” will continue to echo in the hearts and minds of those closest to him. Although he was a husband, father, son, brother, and soldier, his most popular role was that of a true friend.

His memories will forever be cherished in the hearts of his wife, Annie Lillian;  his children, Annie S. Ingram, Agnes (Stephen) Griffith, Jacqueline (Beauford) Wright, Cynthia (Julius) Watkins, James Edwards Smith, and Jameria K. Smith; sisters-in-law, Polly Smith, Minister Evelyn Evans, Calanthia Hunt Flood, Patricia Hunt, and Nancy Hunt Taylor; brothers-in-law, George Hunt, Richard (Helen) Hunt, and Walter Rhodes; 14 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and one great -great granddaughter, a god-daughter, Darlene Davis, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
