Obituary

Ms. Dionia L. Culver blessed this world with her arrival on August 8, 1953, by being born to the proud parents of the late Mr. Frank M. Grier, Sr., and Ms. Idiona Lee Harris. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Frank M. Grier, Jr., Donnie V. Grier, Robert L. Grier, Glenn Grier, and Joey J. Grier.

She attended Hancock Central High School in Sparta, Georgia. She also attended Georgia State College in Milledgeville, Georgia, where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. She later earned her master’s degree as well. Dionia began her lifelong career in education at L.S. Ingram Preschool, which later changed to Hancock County Preschool. She educated and broadened the minds of youth here for more than thirty years. She continued her passion of educating the youngest of minds at Baldwin County Preschool in Milledgeville, Georgia, for another ten years. Her favorite saying was” I love the children. “And it is safe to say that the children indeed loved her as well. She dedicated more than forty years of her life to educating and expanding the minds of children.

Outside of the classroom, Dionia was a masterful seamstress. She knew how to handle needle and thread as well as a singer! She had the ability to look at an article of clothing and recreate it without the use of a pattern. She not only made clothing for herself, but she did this for other loved ones as well. Known for her big, beautiful smile and soft yet direct tone, Dionia would often drop nuggets of wisdom on those she loved, leaving a lasting fragrance of her words settled in their hearts and minds.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her beloved son, Damien (Shadon) R. Jackson of Lancaster, TX; brothers, Andrew (Adrienne) Grier of Macon, GA, James C. Williams of Sparta, GA, and Darrien Grier of Laredo, TX; sisters, Gail Anderson of Sparta, GA, Jeanette Smith of Sparta, GA, Patricia (Kenny) Primus of Sparta, GA, and Stephanie Grier-Johnson (James) of Powder Springs, GA; grandchildren, India D. Jackson of Jonesboro, GA, Kalesha (Lloyd) D.Smith of Prattville, AL, Armani C. Jackson of Stockbridge, GA, and Damien R. Jackson, Jr., of Covington, GA; four great- grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A Loving Mother, Sister, Auntie, and Friend.
