Dexter Copelin Obituary

Dexter Bernard Copelin, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, December 28, 2019, at Northside Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.

Dexter Bernard was born in Baldwin County, Georgia on September 14, 1968, to the parentage of Miss Addie L. Copelin and Mr. Nolan Thomas, two grandmothers, Mrs. Myrtle L. Chaplin, who raised him as her own son, and Mrs. Josephine Macklin and Grandfather, Mr. Eddie Copelin preceded him in death.

He always smiled and was no stranger to anyone. The word of God says, “In order for a person to have friends, they must show themselves friendly”. Throughout his lifetime, Dexter made many friends. He was a graduate from Baldwin High School class of 1987 and immediately joined the Job Corps. He received a degree as an Apprentice Chef and work at the Royal Casino in Los Vegas for many years. Dexter return home in Milledgeville, Georgia. He join the workforce at the Holiday Inn and Cook Building at Central State Hospital for twelve years as a lead worker. Declining health would eventually cause Dexter to resign his position. He loved reading, traveling and also cooking various types of food.

Cherished memories shall always cling to the hearts of his mothers, Mrs. Addie L. Griswold (Willis), stepfather of  Milledgeville, Georgia; father, Mr. Nolan Thomas (Jackie), step mother of Crawfordville, Georgia; sisters, Shonda Chatman of  Milledgeville, Georgia;  Chintye Chatman Hartry (Amos),  of Tucker County; aunts, Katie King of Decatur Alabama; Jeanette Bell, of Athens, Georgia; Rhunette Copelin (Ronnie), of Milledgeville, Georgia; Rev Charlie Copelin (Mary) of Milledgeville, Georgia; Vivian Mosley, devoted cousin raised as a sister, aunts, Jackie Weaver (Larry), of  Augusta, Georgia; Burena Clark, of Sparta, Georgia, Irene Ruff (Wilbert), of Deveraux Georgia; uncle, Horace Macklin of Ellenwood, Georgia; Jerome Mclin, of  Gainesville, Florida; Charles Mclin of Detroit, Michigan; Linton Mclin, of Cumming, Georgia; a devoted, friend Lucille Mitchell, of Milledgeville, Georgia; an host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
