Dawson’s Mortuary announces the transition of Deacon Edward Wingfield Jr. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends during this time of sorrow.
“But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5.
Edward Wingfield, Jr., fondly known as Kissy, was born February 23, 1959, in Augusta, Georgia, to the union of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward and Essie Wingfield. On October 30, 2025, he was called to Heaven.
He served as a loving father, grandfather, dedicated community servant to the Lord, and deacon. He graduated from Hancock Central High in 1977 and became a faithful employee at Georgia Pacific until his retirement on June 1, 2020, working a total of 43 years.
Kissy joined Union Baptist Church at a very early age. He became an ordained deacon in 1986, serving actively for 39 years. While serving faithfully in numerous capacities at his church to include being in a gospel group “The School Bus Boys”. He joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Mattie Ficklin Wingfield on July 28, 1984. To this union, two children were born.
Four sisters, Essie W. Grier, Annie W. Ingram, Catherine H. Hatcher, and Virginia W. Alexander, and nephew Kelvin Ingram, preceded him in death.
Edward leaves to cherish his memories, his loving children Cedric and Shatara Wingfield; four grandchildren Kendasia, Tywreanna, Kewonta and Cedric, Jr.; Six children of Love, Kaylee, Sunny, Khloe, Erial, Emani, and Ja’Kyrus; Sister, Ruthie W. Duggan; Sisters in Law, Minister Emma Sinkfield, Catherine Hudson and Gloria (Lyndon) Heath; and two Brothers in Law, Douglas (Julie) Ficklin and Eddie L. Ingram; brothers in love Marcus Morris and Calvin Grier; sisters in love Brenda (Curtis) Ivey and Bobby Grier, an aunt, Kathleen Wingfield, god children Derrick, Desmand, Quadel, and Ambria; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; a devoted friend, Delois Bell; and devoted classmates, Sue Gilmore and Geradine Hatcher.”
