Alton “Snapper” Hawkins was born on May 24, 1935, in Warrenton Georgia to the late Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth (Geraldine Gilliam) Hawkins. He departed his earthly life and was called home on July 24, 2022.
At an early age Alton accepted Christ into his life. Although he visited many churches throughout the community he chose William Grove Baptist Church as his home. He was a faithful member until his health declined.
Alton attended the Warren County School System. He was employed at Smith Farm Supply as a heavy equipment operator for many years. He later retired from Timbermen Wood Yard of Warrenton as a sawmill operator. During his spare time he often did what he loved most; fishing. There was never a dull moment in Snapper’s presence. Whether he was embracing you with his singing or his sense of humor he would most certainly brighten your day.
He was preceded in death by his son, Eugene Hawkins; daughters, Luverne Hawkins Hill and Bernice Hawkins Johnson; sisters, Sarah Dorsey, Emmaline Smith and Pauline Brown; brothers, Ernest Hawkins, Arthur Hawkins and Paul Hawkins.
Alton leaves behind to cherish his memories four children, Sallie Beall, Walter (Charlene) Hawkins of Warrenton, GA, Louise Hawkins of Augusta GA, Nadine Hawkins of Thomson GA; one sister, Paula (Jean) Merriweather of Warrenton GA; seventeen grandchildren, forty three great grandchildren, eleven great-great grandchildren, host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
