Mildred Shorter Johnson was born on January 17, 1941 in Crawfordville, Georgia, Taliaferro County to the parentage of the late Virgil and Lola Mae Shorter. Affectionately called “BIP” by those closest to her, “BIP” joined the New Hope Powelton Baptist Church at an early age.
She attended Hancock Central High School. She moved to Atlanta, where she spent many years working at Uniform Rental Service. Often famed for her cooking, “BIP” found great pleasure in taking care of her grandchildren and kids in the community.
“BIP” was united in holy matrimony to Tommy T. Johnson, Sr. Mildred was a loving wife, mother, committed sister, affectionate friend and the life of the party.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Lola Mae Shorter; her husband, Tommy T. Johnson, Sr.; a loving son, Tommy T. Johnson, Jr.; two loving brothers, Mr. Jessie Lee Shorter and Mr. Willie James Shorter.
Mildred leaves to cherish her precious memories her loving children: Cassandra Gail Johnson, Angile Johnson Warthen, and John Fitzgerald Johnson, all of Sparta, Georgia, Stacy Lachonda Johnson and Linda Johnson Williams, both of Atlanta, Georgia; one stepson, Tommy Jackson of Covington, Georgia; sisters, Nina (Willie) Reynolds of Miami, Florida and Dorothy Hanson of Warrenton, Georgia; brothers, Virgil (Hattie) Shorter, Bernard Moore and Russel Barry Moore of Atlanta Georgia and William Harper of Crawfordville, Georgia; sisters-in-law, Betty Lou Walker Shorter of Sparta, Georgia, and Ulla Johnson of Covington, Georgia; seventeen grandchildren and forty great grandchildren; goddaughters, Cynthia Lyons and Betty Ford; a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, friend and acquaintances.
